Apple Turnover

Ingredients

  • Dough
  • 2 cups all purpose flour
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 2/3 cup milk
  • 2 tablespoons sugar
  • 6 tablesppons shortening or butter
  • 1 egg
  • 5 – 6 apples or more peeled & diced
  • Syrup
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 2 tablespoon butter

Instructions

  1. Dough
  2. Sift flour, baking powder and salt.
  3. Incorporate shortening or butter.
  4. Mix together into pea size crumbs.
  5. Beat together eggs, sugar milk.
  6. Pour wet mix over dry ingredients while stirring with a fork to form a soft dough[this preparation can also be made using a culinary robot].
  7. Knead dough on floured surface for 10 secondes.
  8. Divide and roll dough into 6 squares.
  9. Evenly distribute diced apples on the 6 dough squares.
  10. Sprinkle a little sugar and cinnamon om apples.
  11. Dampen corners and fold towards center. Seal well.
  12. Place on buttered 9″ x 13″ baking sheet.
  13. Pour syrup around turnovers.
  14. Preheat oven at 400°F and bake for 25 à 30 minutes.
  15. Syrup
  16. Mix (reserve butter) ingredients together.
  17. Bring to gentle boil for 7 minutes.
  18. Remove from stove and add butter.
